5-Carboxy-dCTP is a dCTP analog recently found to play a role in epigenetic regulation. In addition, the carboxylic acid may be used as a crosslinker to react with amine-containing compounds and surfaces in the presence of an activating agent such as EDC (1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide hydrochloride).
